Snow arrives in Peaks of Europe

Today from the via ferrata of “Los Llanos” in Camaleño, we can observe the snow that has fallen since Saturday on the summits of the Picos de Europa. It is the prelude to winter adventures: snowshoeing, rafting and canoe-rafting.

It seems that we will start having fun a little earlier than expected since everything suggests that the snow will continue falling throughout the week. We estimate that at 1600 meters of altitude we can find enough snow to have to wear our snowshoes. This opens up a good range of possibilities for snowshoe routes .

The Deva and Cares rivers begin to flow again with the intensity necessary to carry out Rafting and Canoe-Raft, which in recent months was more of a cry than a request. You should know that our Cares and Deva rivers in their upper reaches, despite the considerable increase in flow in winter and spring, do not confer a danger to participants in whitewater activities such as Rafting or Canoe-Raft, since there are no areas where a person in the water can be trapped in eddies or slipstreams.

The Picos de Europa now offer us a winter panorama of adventures that complements the summer ones. If there are already many activities that this little Eden offers us in summer, it is now that it expands its resources, reminding us that in winter the peaks of Europe continue to be a very complete and sought-after destination.

For the most urbanites, from Potes, San Vicente de la Barquera or from Cabrales we can observe the silhouette of the snow-capped peaks and photograph our particular memory of the Picos de Europa while having an aperitif on a terrace or savoring a good stew in the heat of a chimney. all the best.
